Words are more powerful than many of us can comprehend. There is so much that we can learn on this subject. We can talk ourselves into just about anything if we say it enough. This means we can talk ourselves into being depressed, sick, stressed etc. What many of us lose sight of is that we can also talk ourselves into being joyful, healthy, calm etc. Studies show that we believe more of what we hear ourselves say than what we hear from anyone else. So why would we ever talk about ourselves the way we do so often. If we had a friend talk to us the way we often talk to ourselves they probably wouldn’t be our friend for very long.
Throughout the Bible we see that it’s very important what we say. Jeremiah 23:29 “Nothing else is like God’s Decree. Isn’t my Message like fire?” God’s Decree. “Isn’t it like a sledgehammer busting a rock?” This verse tells us that speaking God’s Word is like a sledgehammer busting rock! Throughout the many low times in my life when I spoke God’s promises out loud, it changed something in me. My circumstances may not have changed immediately, but many times a wonderful peace washed over me. Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” This was one of those promises that I repeated over and over again. The more I spoke that out loud the more convinced I became that God had my back, He knew what He was doing and it was for my ultimate good.
God spoke the world into existence and He instructed people to speak out blessing over others. Father’s would speak out a blessing on their eldest sons. This was serious business for them. If you remember Jacob cheated Esau out of his father’s blessing and Esau threatened to kill him. Jesus brought healing to many people by speaking out loud. His disciples also healed many by speaking out loud. The Bible clearly shows that our words are very important.
How many times have you heard someone say that they are so afraid that there child will never amount to anything? We need to be so mindful of what we speak out over others; we just may get what we are speaking out. Ephesians 5:9 “Speak out to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, offering praise with voices and making melody with all your heart to the Lord.” Proverbs 15:4 “A gentle tongue [with its healing power] is a tree of life, but willful contrariness in it breaks down the spirit. “This verse clearly illustrates that our tongue has healing power.
Are you speaking blessing or cursing over your life? Who can you bless today with your words?
